PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
Geçmişte devam etmekte olan işleri anlatırken bu zamanı kullanırız.Bu zamanı tek başına kullanabildiğimiz gibi bazı bağlaçlarla iki cümle halinde de kullanabiliriz.Tahtadaki örneklerde göreceğiniz gibi bu zamanı ''when'' bağlacı getirerek Simple past tense ile kullanabiliyoruz.Türkçedeki karşılığı yoktur. Geçmişte süreklilik göstermiş ve sona ermiş hareketi gösterir.
AFFIRMATIVE: özne + ( was / were ) + fiil + ( - ing )
I was studying maths all day yesterday.(Dün bütün gün matematik çalışıyordum.)
When we heard the explosion we were watching Tv. (Patlamayı duyduğumuz zaman Tv seyrediyorduk.)
Sally was working when Joe had the car accident. (Joe araba kazası geçirdiğinde Sally çalışıyordu.)
John and Tina were going to the cinema last weekend.(John ve Tina geçen haftasonu sinemaya gidiyordu.)
While we were having a picnic, it started to rain. (Piknik yaparken yağmur yağmaya başladı.)
I was drinking a cup of coffee. (Ben bir fincan kahve içiyordum.)
She was waiting you at the bus stop. (O Otobüs durağında seni bekliyordu.)
My father arrived while Berk were listening yo radıo.
We were playing chess when he came to home.
Lincoln scored the Goal while Volkan was sleeping.
Marry was carrying his bag while she were walking on the road.
NEGATIVE: özne + ( was / were ) + not + fiil + ( - ing )
I wasn't dancing all night, I was studying. (Bütün gece dans etmiyordum, ders çalışıyordum.)
You weren't eating your dinner when the visitors arrived. (Konuklar geldiğinde sen yemek yemiyordun.)
She wasn’t writing a letter. (O mektup yazmıyordu.)
Jill wasn't wearing her uniform at work yesterday.
Greg wasn't studying when we went to his place.
They weren't having a good time at the party when they decided to go home.
Anna wasn't dinner when we arrived.
They weren't obeying the rules. (Onlar kurallara itaat etmiyorlardı.)
QUESTION: ( was / were ) + özne + fiil + ( - ing ) + nesne
Was Mr. Green working in the field when you saw him? (Sen Bay Green'i gördüğün zaman o tarlada mı çalışıyordu?)
Were you wearing your trousers when you went to the party? (Partiye gittiğin zaman beyaz pantolonunu mu giymiştin?)
Was she running in the from a wolf in her nightmare?

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE AŞAĞIDAKİ DURUMLAR İÇİN KULLANILIR:
1-) Belirli bir geçmiş zamanda oluş sürecinin tam ortasındaki olay yada eylemleri anlatmak için kullanılır.( action in the middle of happening at a state past time)
Örnek ( example ) : This time last week I was travelling across Africa.
2-) Oluşu sırasında başka bir geçmiş eylem tarafından müdahale edilen geçmişteki bir eylemi anlatmak için kullanılır.( past action in progress interrupted by another past action.) Past Continuoustaki eylem ne kadar uzunsa, Past Simpledaki eylem o kadar kısa olur. (The longer action is in the past continuous ,the shorter action is in the past simple )
Örnek ( example ) : I was talking a shower when I heard the telephone ring.
3-) Belirli bir zaman süresini kapsayan ve aynı anda gerçekleşmiş bir veya daha fazla eş zamanlı eylemi anlatmak için kullanılır. (two or more simultaneous past actions of certain duration )
Örnek ( example ) : I was washing up while he was drying the dishes.
